Michael van Gerwen picked up his 19th PDC ranking title of 2018 as the World no.1 follows up from his win at the World Grand Prix in Dublin with a win at the European Darts Trophy in Gottingen. For Van Gerwen, It’s his 28th European Tour title, and he’s coming into some really good form at the right time of the year with a whole host of major TV events just around the corner.

Van Gerwen saw off James Wade in a superb 8-3 victory over the Aldershot man, and in the opening phases, Wade was within touching distance of the World no.1 despite being more than 30 points behind in the averages. But, just as Wade was coming into the game as he closed the gap to 4-3, the World no.1 upped his level even higher, and it was simply mesmeric from the ‘Green Machine’, he produced a stunning 11-dart leg to move 5-3 ahead after starting the leg with six perfect darts. Earlier in the final, the World no.1 fired in a ludicrous 119 finish using two bullseyes. Following on from that, MvG produced his best leg of the tournament as he piled in a 10-dart leg to move within just one leg of the title with the averages pushing 111. And, what better way to end the 2018 European Tour as the World no.1 fired in a monstrous 170 finish to claim his 19th title of 2018, and his 28th European Tour title. In terms of his average, Van Gerwen recorded a 111.27 average compared to Wade’s 79.09.

The world no.1 spoke to as well as Paul Nicholson stage side following the conclusion of the final.
