Ryan Searle stunned the World no.7 Mensur Suljovic as the Devon-based ace enjoyed a 3-1 victory over ‘The Gentle’. Searle couldn’t quite believe what he’d achieved as he was apologetic towards his Austrian opponent as he took out an impressive 118 finish to complete a memorable victory on the biggest stage of them all.
Suljovic got off to a near perfect start as the Austrian fired in six maximums with an average of 101.28 to storm the first set (3-1). However, in set two, Searle was gifted a lifeline as Suljovic couldn’t quite replicatehis form from the opening set as the Austrian missed six darts at a double as Searle mopped up every opportunity that was presented his way to level up the match at 1-1.
With the momentum firmly with the World no.61 Ryan Searle, the Devon ace really stamped his authority on the match as he cruised to a 2-1 lead in sets whilst he limited Suljovic to just three darts at a double. Mensur’s double woes continued in the fourth and final set as he missed nine darts at a double, and Searle got his opportunity for the match as he pinned D20 for a superb 118 checkout to dump out the no.7 seed.
