Jim Long’s dream became true on Saturday afternoon at Alexandra Palace as the Canadian representative from London, Ontario booked his place in round two at the 2019 William Hill PDC World Darts Championship as Long managed to complete a 3-1 victory over Mickey Mansell.
Long earned his place at the World Championship after qualifying through the Championship Darts Circuit Tour as the top Canadian player ahead of Gary Mawson. Long produced some great finishes of 116 and 127 en route to securing the win. Mansell took the opening set, but Long came battling back superbly as he produced a superb 127 finish to tie the match at 1-1.
The Canadian gained confidence and momentum from that finish as he won three legs on-the-spin to clinch the third set to move 2-1 ahead with the pressure piled on the Irishman to respond. Mansell opened up a 2-1 lead in the fourth set, but he couldn’t quite kill the legs off when he needed to, as Long took full opportunity as he sealed his place in the second round of the 2019 William Hill World Darts Championship.
