Sergio Aguero struck twice as Manchester City moved up to second position in the Premier League with a convincing win at the Vitality Stadium, responding to Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Anfield on Saturday.

Despite the odd defensive lapse, it was a comfortable afternoon for Pep Guardiola’s side, who are now just two points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Manchester City soon established control of the game as Sergio Aguero placed the ball past Ramsdale from eight years out, after a delicately placed pass from Belgian Kevin de Bruyne.

Raheem Sterling doubled City’s lead, with his fifth goal in as many matches as he flicked his effort past a stranded Aaron Ramsdale in the Bournemouth goal after a terrific ball in from skipper David Silva, who made his 400th appearance for the club.

In stoppage time in the first-half, Harry Wilson struck a sensational 25-yard free-kick, which left Ederson absolutely helpless in the Manchester City goal.

Sergio Aguero extinguished any hopes of a revival for the Cherries as the Argentine pounced on a loose ball after more great work from David Silva. For Aguero, it was the 31-year old’s 400th career goal.

It ensured Bournemouth, who drop to 10th place, continued a miserable run against City that has seen them concede 28 times in their last nine league meetings.
