Veenstra & Turner Victorious at the British Classic

Richard Veenstra & Laura Turner both enjoyed tasted success on Saturday afternoon at the BDO British Classic in Bridlington.

For Turner, it was her first BDO major ranking title victory, and the way that the Surrey-based star took the title was very admirable. Turner edged out Lisa Brosnan 4-3 in the last 16 in what a closely contested battle, but she really stepped up her game in the latter end of the competition as she saw off Anastasia Dobromyslova in another last-leg deciding victory (4-3).

Turner ensured her place in the final as she completed a 4-1 victory over Lincolnshire’s Paula Jacklin in what was a very assured display from the Surrey ace. In the final, Turner came up against the ‘Lancashire Rose’ Lisa Ashton. And, Turner had saved her best performance for the final as she took apart the World Champion in an assured 5-1 victory to take the title in flamboyant fashion.

A delighted Laura Turner took to social media to express her delight on winning the BDO British Classic added by her partner Aaron’s victory over Glen Durrant in the board final.

In the Mens event, Richard Vernstra produced some world-class stuff as he edged out Wesley Harms in a superb final. Veenstra averaged over 101 in a 6-5 success over his fellow compatriot in what was a high-intensity battle.

The match was played in a great spirit from both players, and as soon as Veenstra pinned D20 to confirm the win, Wesley Harms was delighted to congratulate his Dutch team-mate on winning the BDO British Classic.

En route to the final, Veenstra saw off the likes of Daniel Ayres (3-0), William Laird (3-2), Matt Clark (4-2), Wouter Vaes (4-0), Gary Stafford (4-2), David Adshead (4-2) & Kyle McKinstry (5-4).

Tomorrow is the final event of the BDO tour season, and the final event before the relevant cut-offs for the Lakeside World Championship & the Grand Slam of Darts.

In terms of the Grand Slam, Darts statistician Burton DeWitt went through some of the permutations ahead of tomorrow’s event in Bridlington.
