158

Robert Owen, Alan Tabern and Mario Robbe all secured their two-year tour cards on day two of the professional darts corporation’s qualifying school on Friday afternoon. The Welshman Owen produced some solid displays as he secured a return to the tour, Owen has produced some scintillating form in the back end of 2017 with some great runs on the European Tour. He sealed the deal after completing a 5-3 victory over Mike Norton. Prior to that, he enjoyed victories over Robert Smith (5-4), Lee Evans (5-0), Paul Harvey (5-0), George Gardener (5-1), Tony Martin (5-4), Simon Stevenson (5-0) & Nathan Aspinall (5-2). Joining Owen on the tour is ‘The Saint’ Alan Tabern who rolled back the years as he also produced a solid run of form. He ended Jamie Hughes’ hopes of a tour card on day two as he defeated the former BDO number three 5-2 in a terrific performance. Following that, Tabern defeated Terry Temple (5-3) and Phil Borthwick (5-4) before defeating Steven Kirkby 5-1 to secure his return to the PDC’s elite.

Over in Hildesheim, Mario Robbe secured his tour card as he edged out Frantisek Humpula 5-4 in what was a final that none of us really expected. The Dutchman who heralds from the same neck of the woods as Benito van de Pas and Jeffrey Sparidaans produced a fine run of form as he defeated the likes of Hannes Schnier (5-2), Till Meischner (5-0), Nico Blum (5-1), Jose Antonio Perales (5-2), Gabriel Rollo (5-4), Michele Turetta (5-0), Tytus Kanik (5-1) before defeating Humpula 5-4 in that last-leg decider to clinch victory and secure his tour card.
