Part’s joy in Philadelphia

John Part returned to the winners circle as he claimed Main Event nine on the Magic Darts Championship Darts Circuit. The three-time World champion ran out a 6-2 winner over Danny Lauby Jnr who himself, played superbly over the course of the event.

Part’s finishing was exemplary in the final as he took his chances whenever they were presented to him, the averages were impressive throughout by both players, and it was a great final.

Jim Long looks to have sealed the Canadian spot for the William World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace in December as he went on an impressive run to the Semi-Finals before eventually losing out to Danny Lauby Jnr by a 6-2 scoreline.

In Main Event nine, history was made as there were two father vs son matches played as Gavin Nicoll – the Junior Tour champ took on his father Timmy, but it was Timmy who showed his vast experience as he ran out a 5-1 winner. But, it was youth who prevailed next as Danny Lauby Jnr saw off his father Dan in a 6-4 victory in the Quarter-Finals.

En route to claiming the title, John Part played some superb stuff to see off the likes of Kevin Jinkensen (5-2), Pat Gallagher (5-1), Gino Florian (5-0), Jim Widmayer (6-3) & Chuck Puleo (6-4).

Following his win, Part said: “I’m just happy to be here, I’ve had flights cancelled in New York.

“I’ve been practicing hard since Las Vegas and I wasn’t happy with how events unfolded there for me, with how I started off. I’ve been working really hard since then and this proves that!

“My finishing really helped me out, especially in the latter stages of the tournament.”

There were some great averages over the course of the day too, with Matt Campbell, who’s only played a handful of CDC events firing in a stunning 104.4 average in a 5-0 victory over Jim Newman in the last 32.
