Dave Parletti continued his his fine run of form on the BDO circuit as the postman from Surrey lifted the Romanian International Darts Open title on Sunday evening in Bucharest. For Parletti, it’s his fourth BDO ranking title which lifts him to no.8 in the latest BDO rankings above Wayne Warren and Chris Landman. The Semi-Finals and the Final were streamed live on various media platforms across the world.
Parletti did the hard work on the floor to reach the last four, but he showed superb composure in those two stage matches. In the Semi-Finals, Parletti faced Wouter Vaes from the Netherlands in a great exchange from the pair. Parletti was up against it with the match poised at 3-3 with Vaes scoring well, but some nerveless finishing and heavy scoring at key times saw Parletti through in a 5-3 success. Vaes fluffed his lines on a 96 finish which allowed Parletti to take advantage as he took out 59 to secure his place in the final.
In the final, Parletti faced probably his toughest test yet as he faced Gary Robson who was very much in-form leading up to the final. Robson flew out of the traps as he moved into a 2-0 and a commanding 3-1 lead. Parletti was slow out of the gate, but he put together some great legs to get himslef back in contention. The sixth leg proved to be the turning point in the final as Parletti fired in a sensational 12-dart leg to break the Robson throw. It gave Parletti more confidence moving forward as he moved into a 4-3 lead, and with the finishing line in sight, questions were asked of Parletti.
But as you’d expect, Robson came firing back, breaking Parletti back as he overturned the deficit in quick-fire time to throw for the march. Parletti applied the pressure on Robson’s throw, but ‘Robbo’ had three match darts as he he’d left 40, but to his dismay, Parletti was given a golden opportunity to force a decider, that opportunity was taken as the Surrey-based star pinned D3 with his last dart in hand to throw for the match himself. Parletti produced some consistent stuff in the final leg, and he wasn’t letting the occassion get to him as he cooly took out a 50 checkout to clinch the 2019 Romanian International Darts Open title.
Also during the Romanian Darts Festival in Bucharest, John Michael lifted the Romanian Darts Classic title after edging out Derk Telnekes in a 6-5 victory. Aileen De Graaf picked up the Romanian Darts Open Ladies title as she saw off Deta Hedman in a 5-2 success. Poland’s Karolina Pogorska defeated Margaret Sutton to lift the Romanian Classic title.
