On Tuesday evening, we witnessed drama, a flourish of goals and late winners in the Sky Bet League One. Bradford City produced late heroics at Valley Parade as David Ball fired the ball home in the 96 minute. Shrewsbury Town must’ve though that they secured at least a point as Fejiri Okenabirhie lashed the ball home in the 93rd minute to complete his hat-trick. In the opening phases of the game, Bradford City were dominant as they moved into a 3-1 lead thanks to goals from O’Brien, Doyle and an own goal from Shrewsbury’s Anthony Grant.
Luton Town extended their lead at the top of the Sky Bet League One as Mick Harford’s side completed a 3-2 win over Portsmouth at Kenilworth Road. In a top of the table clash, we expected high-quality, and we weren’t left disappointed. Portsmouth twice came from behind to level, the substitute George Moncur secured all three points for the home side with a 86th minute strike, but there was a ‘crazy’ nine-minute spell in which there was three goals scored. James Collins converted his spot kick to regain the lead at 2-1 on 77 minutes, the host’s lead was cancelled out just two minutes later as Omar Bogle fired the ball home to equalise for a second time, but Luton Town extend their lead to five points at the top of the Sky Bet League One table.
Elsewhere, Blackpool managed to salvage a late equaliser in their 2-2 draw with Wycombe Wanderers at Bloomfield Road. Harry Pritchard converted an 86 minute penalty to secure a point. This was prior to Wycombe opening up a 2-1 thanks to goals from Akinfenwa and Jacobson. At the Memorial Stadium, Bristol Rovers were denied all three points as Peterborough snatched a 90th minute equaliser in their 2-2 draw with Graham Coughlan’s side. Joe Ward was on hand for the visitors to secure a point prior to goals from Nichols and Clarke as Bristol moved into a 2-1 lead.
Gillingham and Acrrington shared a point in a goalless draw at the Priestfield Stadium. A point wasn’t beneficial for either side as they sit 18th and 15th respectively. Barnsley produced a terrific second-half fightback to deny Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium. Ruffles and Mackie opened up a comfortable 2-0 lead for the home side, but they were denied all three points as Thiam and Moore fired in two goals in just nine minutes to secure a well earned point for Daniel Stendel’s side.
