Harlow’s Bradley Phillips continued his superb run on the Junior Darts Corporation’s Modus UK Tour as he claimed event no.4 in Benfleet, Essex. Phillips had previously claimed the first two Modus UK Tour events in Dorchester & Worcester, before returning to winning ways on Saturday afternoon to make it three wins out of four events played. It was Tavis Dudeney of Brighton who tasted success in Derby in event no.3.
Phillips road to the title wasn’t all straight forward though, as he had to battle through two tough last-leg deciders early on in the event. He kicked things off with a 3-1 victory over Joshua James-Powell, he then came through a tough match with Freddie Box, but he came through that one winning 3-2.
In the last eight, Phillips faced a tough opponent in James Beeton who was a winner on the JDC Modus UK Tour in Dorchester in 2017. And, it didn’t disappoint as Phillips was embroiled in yet another five-leg thriller as he stepped up his game to produce a 16-dart leg in the decider. It was a great game from both players as they both averaged 80 and change.
In the Semi-Finals, Phillips managed to see off Charlie Large in a 4-1 victory for the Essex star. There wasn’t much seperating the pair in terms of averages, but Phillips took his chances when it mattered.
In the Final, we seen a new finalist on the JDC UK Tour as Buster Turner from Southampton took on the multiple UK Tour winner. Phillips enjoyed an assuring 5-2 victory over the Southampton youngster, but credit to both players as they pushed each other to the limit.
For Phillips, It’s his third JDC Modus UK Tour title. Jarred Cole achieved a similar spell of form in 2017 as he reached five finals out of five events played as he won three of them. And, now look how far Cole has come.
Just a few weeks ago in Miamisburg, Ohio, the Championship Darts Corporation hosted their first two Junior events. The CDC Junior Tour is partnered with the Junior Darts Corporation. Conner Zaragoza and Buster Graves were the two winners of those events, and events 3 & 4 will return in 3 weeks time in Burlington, Ontario.
As for the JDC Modus UK Tour, event no.5 hits Manchester as Rileys Chorlton debuts as a JDC UK Tour venue.
