‘Superchin’ Daryl Gurney put in a solid display as he edged out Mark Webster 5-3 at the Wolverhampton Civic. The world number four and World Grand Prix champion is making his debut in the tournament which is quite sensational as it shows his surge through the rankings. It wasn’t all plain sailing though for Gurney as he struggled to find his range early on in the contest as the pair were tied at 2-2. Gurney took out 90 on D20 to move into a 3-2 lead, but Webster wasn’t going away as he took out 48 to level the match up at 3-3. Gurney restored parity as he took out 76 for a 14-darter to move within a leg of the match at 4-3. Gurney capitalised on three missed darts at D6 from Webster to force a deciding leg as the Derry-based star picked out D10 to complete a 5-3 victory and maintain his 100 record.
Perhaps not the performance he was looking for but Gurney is just happy to pick up another win in Wolverhampton pic.twitter.com/MMxL4b3cu6
